We have recently experienced many threads describing what idm music people on idm list like, prefer to listen, would take with them on desert isladn and so on. I have another question which furrows my mind. What other types, styles, variations of music idm people like, listen, etc. In other words I would propose to make top ten list of non idm music you like. Or maybe just list of styles which gets on with idm in your hearts. To start with (and maybe finish if none supports the idea) I propose my lists of styles and artists on the subject: Top non-idm 10 (no order): 1. Dub (Scorn, Bill Laswell), 2. Guitar (Praxis, Sol Invictus, Death Cube K), 3. Death metal (Napalm Death, My Dying Bride, Anathema), 4. Goa (Kox Box, Infinity Project) 5. Drum'n'bass (Animals on Wheels, Plug, Amon Tobin) 6. Jazz (Red Snapper, Funki Porchini) 7. Ambient (Brian Eno, Robert Rich, Lustmord, Rapoon) 8. Detroit (Holy Ghost, Christian Vogel, Neil Landstrumm) 9. Industrial (Ministry, Godflesh, Techno Animal) 10. Just Ninja (Irresistable Force, DJ Vadim, Neotropic, Coldcut) Of course, I admit that idm style (and any styles) is very blurred at the edges and my opinion on some non-idm artists may differ with yours. I would really like to see what you all like. Alien

1. Loads of hip hop (The Roots, Native Tounges, Hiero, Gangstarr, Nas' first record, Dungeon Fam, Project Blowed, Outsidaz, Supafriendz, Quannum, Pete Rock & CL, BDP, Rakim, two wu albums, some of the rawkus NY indie stuff) 2. tones/glitchy shit/noise (mego, ikeda, raster, etc... sorry, i just don't consider this idm, maybe just 'i') 3. old school Funk/Soul Stuffs (Issac Hayes, Stevie Wonder, James Brown) 4. Jazz (davis, coltrane) 5. Industrial (Mainly WS stuff- coil, NWW, etc.) 6. Prince 7. Some of that so-called 'neo-classic-soul'(worse genre name since idm, btw) stuff (mainly just D'Angelo, occasionally Badu, that new Macy Gray chick sounds pretty nice, tho) 8. a little bit of wack r&b with Timbaland beats 9. Mr. Bungle/Secret Chiefs/Patton (not FNM, tho) 10. um... probably that early academic electronic shit (Parmegiani, stockhausen, Xenakis, etc.) only recently discovered thanks to a certain list members hotline server....
